ADOPTING A COMPANION ANIMAL

 ADOPTION INFORMATION                           
The LCHS has a number of dogs, cats, and rabbits that are in need of a good home.

  • DOGS are spayed or neutered, unless too young, current on shots, and microchipped. They have tested heartworm negative and are currently on heartworm preventative.

  • CATS have tested negative for feline leukemia and feline Immunodeficiency virus (FIV). All cats are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and current on shots. They also are indoors only, litter-box trained, and get along with dogs and other cats, unless otherwise specified.

  • RABBITS are indoors only and litter-box trained, unless otherwise specified.

    •  ADOPTION FEES                                             
    ADOPTION FEES help support the care and feeding of other LCHS companion animals. Adoption Fees are as follows (unless otherwise specified due to special needs):

    Dogs: $80 - $150
    Cats and Kittens over 6 months old:: $80 - $150
    Kittens under 6 months: $100
    Rabbits: $20

    Pet Adoption Booths are held twice each month at the Tallahassee PetSmart on 3220 Captial Circle NE     (MAP) See our Calendar and Events page for upcoming dates.

    Pets available for adoption are listed on the following pages: Dogs, Cats, and Rabbits. If you see an adoptable pet on our website that you are interested in adopting, please call us at 224-9193.

    		 ADOPTION PROCEDURE                                 
    Adopting a companion animal from LCHS involves a few simple steps...

    1. Select the companion animal(s) you would like to adopt.

      Pets available for adoption are listed on the following pages: Dogs, Cats, and Rabbits.

      We also encourage you to visit our pet adoption booth held twice a month at the Tallahassee PetSmart on 3220 Captial Circle NE Click here for a map. Upcoming Adoption Booth dates can be found on our Calendar and Events page.

    2. Fill out the ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE (application) and return it to LCHS along with the adoption fee.

      You must have the Adobe Reader installed on your computer in order to view a PDF. If you do not have the reader, you may download and install a free copy from the Adobe web site.

    3. Sign the Adoption Contract.

    4. If you are renting your home, LCHS verifies pet acceptance with your landlord.

    5. Have a home visit completed by an LCHS representative.

    6. Enjoy your new furry companion!
