Spring Means Needy Kittens and
Puppies – Can You Help?

Spring brings beauty to our community, with the blooming of azaleas, dogwoods and much more.  But spring also brings tragedy in the form of abandoned kittens and puppies, found along roads, abandoned in parking lots and dropped off in boxes at shelters.

THE TRUE COST
Saving these little ones takes an enormous toll on resources. The cost of bottles, nipples, baby formula, vaccinations, medical care and prescriptions for the many illnesses and ailments common to these babies can quickly drain our Animal Medical Expenses Fund. Additional costs add up for things such as:
    - extra crates
    - cleaning supplies
    - sterilizing and sanitizing crates, dishes, bottles, nipples
    - MANY extra loads of laundry.
Like babies in diapers, these tiny ones keep all aspects of care at peak levels, including their hourly, round-the-clock feedings. Once the early weeks are past, the next line of expenses includes transitioning them from bottle formulas to puppy and kitten foods, starting their flea, tick and heartworm preventatives and getting them spayed and neutered.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Since we are 100% funded by donations and membership, your financial support during "Baby Season" is particularly important. One of our supporters has made a generous committment for much needed folding crates and will match other donations, dollar for dollar, up to $1,000.

Could you sponsor a litter or a single pup or kitten? Here are some of the itemized costs for their care:

One set of nurser bottles - $12
Kitten & Puppy Formulas  - $20
Transition foods  - $25
Kitten & Puppy foods (canned & dry) - $20
Veterinary care - $100  (includes tests for FIV, FeLv & heartworms, internal parasite screenings, worming x 2, 4 FVRCP shots, rabies shots, DHLPP & Bordatella vaccines and microchip)
Spay or Neuter - $40-80

Will you make a donation today to help cover any of these expenses?

We understand with the economy that this is a difficult time. However, the window of opportunity to assist these helpless little orphans exists now - and to be effective, the need for your cash donation is now.
If you can select one or two items for you, your family, your business, club or church group to sponsor, you could make survival - and the ultimate goal of being adopted into a forever home - a reality for one or more of these tiny babies.

LCHS is proud of serving 50 years as a vital part of Tallahassee. The enormous generosity of our community has always been one of its finest assets.

Thank you for caring enough to make a difference!

With your continued support, we can continue to save these little lives.

***Special Alert***

The current economy has greatly increased the number of animals losing their homes - job losses and foreclosures affect ALL the members of a family - especially those with four legs. LCHS receives calls daily from people faced with difficult choices where their pets are concerned. We've taken animals from people forced to move in with relatives and those living in their cars. We’ve even taken in animals left behind in abandoned homes. Unfortunately, too often, we simply do not have the resources to help everyone who asks.

Please consider increasing your gift to
LCHS to help meet these pressing needs.

First, visit www.goodsearch.com and designate the Leon County Humane Society as your charity. Then, each time you search the internet using www.goodsearch.com, a donation will be made to LCHS. It’s powered by Yahoo!, so you’ll get the same quality search results you’re used to. There’s even a button to see how much money has been raised. Begin using www.goodsearch.com as your main search engine and tell your friends. The more people using it, the more money raised for homeless animals in our community.

Second, have your company or department participate in Cartridges for Cats and Canines! Call Donnie Vause of Tallahassee Laser and Inkjet Cartridge Service to sign up and designate the Leon County Humane Society as your charity. Then save your used inkjet, laser, and fax cartridges.
