Welcome!
The Leon County Humane Society (LCHS) is a membership - supported, no-kill organization. We invite you to learn more about who we are, where we are, and how you can be a part of our mission to promote animal well-being. But most importantly, we invite you to take a look at the wonderful pets that are waiting for adoption! We hope you'll visit us regularly, online and offline.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities
Welcome Aboard!
The staff and critters of LCHS are very excited about the possibility of so many Leon County Students joining us for the summer. We’ll be happy to help you earn your Bright Futures Scholarship hours – and they’re so easy to do during summer break! So, get signed up today! There are a limited number of positions available.
If you want to volunteer with us during the week at the office, the many different jobs and activities are divided into 3 shifts:
- MORNING CREW: 9:00AM-12:00Noon
- MIDDAY CREW: 12:00 Noon-3:00PM
- AFTERNOON CREW: 3:00pm-5:00pm
(this shift not available on Fridays)
You can also volunteer on the 1st or 3rd Saturdays of each month at our PetSmart Adoption Booths or on the 2nd Saturday of each month at our famous Dog Washes. We’ll also have several Special Projects over the summer months when we’ll need extra hands.
The first step is to fill out an application and then set up an interview with Lori Carlson, our Volunteer Coordinator. You can email her at lcarlson@LCHS.info or call the office 224-9193.
(*Parent/Legal Guardian must attend interview with students under 18 years of age)

Lost and Found Pet Survey
As much as we love our pets, too many of them end up lost or stray and never make it back to their families. What is the first thing you would do if your pet got lost? What would you do if you found a stray pet? The Leon County Humane Society has teamed up with City of Tallahassee Animal Services and other concerned citizens to address the problem of stray and lost pets.
A BIG THANK YOU to the 1077 area residents who responded to the
Lost and Found Pet Survey. Click Here to see the results.
