Office Manager and Cat Foster Coordinator Foster cats awaiting adoption and visiting in our office have brand new living quarters thanks to four of our dedicated volunteers. Bruce and Margaret Timm, faithful cat care volunteers, knew that we needed cages that were easier to clean, disinfect properly, and move. The stainless steel cages that would meet all those needs were expensive! Money was not available to buy them. Due to an unexpected refund, Bruce and Margaret were able to make a very generous donation that covered almost all of the cost of twelve stainless steel, veterinary grade cages. As the Leon County Humane Society is a 501©3 nonprofit organization, an extra discount was obtained by the cage supplier, TW Medical Veterinary Supply. Our dreams could become reality! The order was placed, and we were told, “some assembly is required”. Delivery day came and the big truck arrived -- with lots of boxes! Lots of big and little boxes--including a big box of screws and a sheet of assembly instructions. One of our other regular long time cat care volunteers, Lynn Ball, had said “Call me when the cages come. I want to help put them together”. LCHS office staff member Scott McQuade and volunteer Frank Adair unpacked all the boxes and the next day Lynn and her husband Fred arrived with required tools in hand. Lynn and Fred went to work, along with cat foster Barbara Presgrove and the office staff, and a day and a half later the cages were ready! FSU volunteers Alex Gomez and Laura Dickerson helped with “moving day” for the visiting kitties. Volunteers such as Bruce, Margaret, Fred, Lynn, Barbara, Alex, Laura and Frank are the backbone of the Leon County Humane Society, which has been working to improve the lives of area pets, one good deed at a time, for forty-five years! |
