Dog Wash Fundraisers
Dog Wash fundraisers are held at the LCHS office during the warmer months. This event not only generates income for LCHS, but it also gives the public a chance to learn how to care for their pet and an opportunity to ask questions about their pet's health. Volunteers simply show up on designated Saturdays to help wash and dip dogs. Experience Needed: Should be comfortable around dogs and not afraid to get wet! Foster Program Besides spaying/neutering, the LCHS Foster Program is one of the sure ways to prevent euthanasia of Tallahassee's companion animals. The Leon County Humane Society Foster Program rescues homeless cats, dogs, and rabbits from local shelters and places them in temporary foster homes. These lucky animals receive appropriate medical care and are then exhibited at adoption booths in hopes of finding a permanent, loving home for each animal.

Membership
Unfortunately, every animal doesn't have a responsible and compassionate owner. To help those animals lacking the love and care of a good home, the Leon County Humane Society provides education about and advocacy for the companion animals in the Big Bend area. These services are not free, and as such, membership is perhaps the most important fundraiser for the Leon County Humane Society. Membership dollars support day-to-day operating costs like electricity, staffing, and phone service, as well as program expenses including mailings and Petpourri, our newsletter. Volunteer responsibilities include reviewing membership goals and activities, assisting staff with maintenance of membership database and tracking, working on membership campaigns, and creating new ways to generate members. Experience Needed: Research and organizational skills. Marketing and knowledge of how other organizations conduct membership campaigns would be extremely helpful. Newsletter The newsletter committee creates the LCHS newsletter, Petpourri, by writing and researching articles, editing submitted text, and working with the graphic design to ensure its publication. Experience Needed: Good organizational and writing skills are helpful. Office Assistance We are in constant need of office volunteers to help out with mailings, answer phones, and provide maintenance and cleaning. Experience Needed: A smiling face! Ability to take direction from office staff and commitment to showing up when expected. Hours are flexible. You can work a set number of hours each week, or be on call to help out when we have a need, such as getting the newsletter or membership applications folded and stamped. Paw Prints Calendar This calendar is a popular fundraiser for LCHS. Entries of local animals are judged and then displayed in an annual calendar, along with humane education tidbits and information about LCHS events. Experience needed: Good organization skills, some writing involved, and ability to help with sales and distribution of calendar. Also need help with publicizing the entry forms and selling the calendar itself. Publicity Committee The publicity committee oversees the publicity of all LCHS events and other news-worthy issues. This committee writes press releases, distributes them to the media, and follows up. Experience needed: Good writing skills, ability to follow through and make sure events are covered in local media. Shelter-to-Service This program trains assistance dogs for people with disabilities or for use in law enforcement. The LCHS has volunteers who evaluate shelter animals as potential assistance dogs. These volunteers then work to socialize the dogs and teach them basic obedience skills before sending them for extensive training. Experience Needed: Must be willing to foster Shelter-to-Service candidates during their initial training period and work with them as needed in public spaces. Volunteers are also needed to help with coordination of the program. Spay/Neuter Campaign LCHS offers free or reduced spays/neuters at the local Animal Aid clinic or vouchers for use at local veterinary clinics. Cost varies according to the animal and procedure conducted. Such assistance is available to any citizen, regardless of income or number of pets owned. The LCHS spay/neuter program is funded wholly by proceeds from the annual Fur Ball, our largest fundraiser. Experience Needed: Volunteers help with publicity, distribution of materials to all local vets, tracking of funds, and follow-up. Special Events Throughout the year, LCHS coordinates several special events in our community to raise money and awareness for the animals. Experience Needed: Volunteers with good organizational skills, smiling faces, and the discipline to work on event from start to finish are ideal. We also need volunteers willing to work at events. Volunteer Committee With a part-time staff of three, LCHS is unable to expand programs and services without relying on volunteers to help out. Positions include:
